An abscess is a localized collection of pus caused by a bacterial infection. It occurs when harmful bacteria invade a specific area of the body, triggering an immune response. Abscesses can develop in various body parts, such as the skin, organs, or teeth.While abscesses and boils share similarities, there is a notable difference between them. Abscesses result from deeper tissue infections, whereas boils originate from infected hair follicles. Contributing factors include bacterial infections, compromised immune function, or poor hygiene.

Bacteria in the blood can make abscesses and boils worse and lead to more severe complications.
