Chondroitin sulfate helps retain water and nutrients in cartilage, inhibits enzymes that break down cartilage, and supports joint lubrication and shock absorption. It may reduce inflammation and slow progression of joint degeneration.
Used in osteoarthritis, joint pain, sports recovery, and degenerative cartilage conditions. Effective when taken long-term (minimum 8–12 weeks).
Not used traditionally as an herbal compound, but collagen- and cartilage-rich foods have been used historically in bone and joint health (e.g. bone broth, connective tissue stews)
Available as capsules, tablets, powders, and combined joint formulas (often with glucosamine, MSM).
Avoid in shellfish allergies (marine-derived products); use caution in bleeding disorders.
May potentiate anticoagulant/antiplatelet medications.
